PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Although the I.T. for Dominica project is relatively young, to date it has accomplished several milestones:

Teaching:  Professional and technical staff have traveled to Dominica to offer courses on several occasions. To date, over  one hundred teachers and principals have received Certificates of Achievement signed the Minister of Education for the Commonwealth of Dominica and the course instructor. These certificates recognize one week of instruction on using information technologies in their classrooms.

The most recent program is the IT Leadership Institute for all principals on the island. Over seventy percent of the school administrators in the country have attended the Institute and have warmly welcomed  the knowledge shared.

Participant comments include:

"I was really impressed with this course and felt that it should have gone on for another week"

"The instructor has been an inspiration to me."

"I am now convinced and very enthusiastic about introducing IT in my school."

Technologies & Site Installations:  One hundred computers, ten networks, and associated peripherals were shipped from Canada and installed in eleven Dominican schools. Network installation has been supported through joint work of the Dominican Ministry of Education and Palliser Regional Schools technical support staff.  Future technology installations are planned.

Planning: Meetings have been held with key government officials including the Minister Education, the Minister of Communications, Permanent Secretary of Education, Chief Education Officer, Director of the Education Planning Unit, Telecommunications Advisor and Telecommunications Engineer.
